“It’s really nice to be given the chance to develop”
What has your journey at Biltema been like?
My journey at Biltema began almost 10 years ago, and it has been a long and exciting one. I’ve tried my hand at so many things at Biltema, and I think I’ve tried almost everything. I’ve worked on the shop floor, and I’ve held managerial roles, first as an assistant manager and then as café manager at head office. Now I’m back as an assistant manager on the shop floor again, because that’s where I belong.
It’s nice to be able to develop and figure out what works well for me and what doesn’t. At Biltema, you’re actually allowed to try out lots of different things.
What’s the best thing about working at Biltema?
Well, it’s that you get the chance to try things out. From my point of view, Biltema is a great place to work. You’re challenged, and it’s good to have a wide range of skills. It’s not just about stocking shelves or managing a team. We also have customers whom we need to give a good experience.
The very best thing is probably that it’s so varied, and that you’re never doing the same thing every day. It’s really, really cool.
What qualities are important for a Biltema employee – given that you’re also involved in recruitment?
It depends, of course, on the type of employee we need.
In the store, it’s important to be customer-focused and service-minded, and a structured approach is key when working on the shop floor, as it makes things much easier. In the café, an important quality is having a good overview and a sense of what’s important right now and what can wait.
We sell an incredible number of sausages and hot dogs, so we get a lot of customers coming through the café, and it’s important to make sure it’s tidy and clean, that there’s enough food, and that we don’t run out of anything. Things just move fast in the café.
It’s also important to be smiling and cheerful and to give your customers and colleagues the best of yourself when you’re at work.
How do you help make Biltema a one-stop shop for the whole family?
I do this by telling everyone I meet in my daily life that they can buy that item at Biltema, and by showing them exactly what product they should buy.
And when I’m at work – I give a friendly greeting to the gentleman who’s gone into the car department, ask if he’s brought his wife along, and help him if she’s gone off on her own. It just makes things a bit more fun and a bit cooler, and makes you want to do it again.
There’s room for everyone in the warehouse – big and small, children and adults, young and old. And we make sure that the range and the products we select for customers are suitable for both ‘him’ and ‘her’ as well as the children, so they can see that we have something for the whole family.
