LED bulbs
LED bulbs are a popular choice when it comes to lighting because they combine energy efficiency with a long lifespan. At Biltema, you will find a wide selection of LED bulbs to suit all your needs – whether you need good working light in the kitchen or cosy lighting in the living room.
What is an LED bulb?
An LED bulb is a type of bulb that uses small light-emitting diodes to create light. Instead of using a filament like traditional bulbs, LED bulbs use an electric current to make the diodes glow. LED bulbs come in many shapes and sizes, so they can be used for everything from dining room lamps to refrigerator lights.
Why LED bulbs are a good idea
LED bulbs are a popular choice in many homes, and there are plenty of good reasons to replace traditional incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs. Here we highlight the most significant advantages of switching to an LED light source:
Greater safety
LED bulbs produce very little heat compared to traditional incandescent bulbs. This means that they do not overheat, no matter how long they have been on. This reduces the risk of overheating and fire hazards. You also avoid burning yourself when changing bulbs.
Low energy consumption – save on your electricity bill
LED bulbs use significantly less energy than incandescent and halogen bulbs. In fact, they can reduce energy consumption by up to 80-90%. This means that you can save significantly on your electricity bill if you replace your incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs – even if your incandescent bulbs have not yet reached the end of their useful life.
Environmentally friendly solution
The low energy consumption also means that LED bulbs are more environmentally friendly than incandescent bulbs. Furthermore, they do not contain any harmful substances such as mercury, which is found in other bulbs. If you care about the environment, LED bulbs are therefore also an obvious choice for you.
Long service life
LED bulbs have a much longer lifespan than traditional bulbs. In fact, they can last for years, which means they do not need to be replaced as often. This is both a practical and financial advantage.
No warm-up time
Did you know that LED bulbs turn on immediately? LED bulbs have no warm-up time, so you get full brightness as soon as you turn on the switch – unlike other energy-saving bulbs.
So there are several good reasons to use LED bulbs at home. You get a safe, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly solution that lasts longer and saves you money.
LED bulbs provide the light you want
LED bulbs are incredibly versatile when it comes to creating the right lighting in your home. There are many different LED bulbs available, giving you complete flexibility and control over the lighting you get.
LED bulbs are available in different colour tones – from warm white light, which creates a cosy atmosphere, to cool white light, which is ideal for work areas. This makes it easy to adapt the lighting to the function and mood of the room.
You can also choose LED bulbs with different brightness levels, so you can find the right intensity for your needs. If you want a softer light, a frosted bulb may be a good choice. A frosted bulb has a matte surface that provides a softer light compared to a clear LED bulb.
If you have a dimmer switch, you can also get dimmable LED bulbs, which allow you to adjust and dim the light. This way, you can create everything from bright working light to subdued, relaxing lighting – with just a single bulb.

Choose the right LED bulbs for the job
When looking for an LED bulb for your home, you first need to know which room the bulb will be used in. This is important because different rooms require different lighting. In the kitchen and bathroom, you need bright, functional light, while the living room and bedroom often require more subdued and cosy lighting. With the room in mind, we recommend that you consider the following:
- Base: Make sure to choose an LED bulb with the right base to fit your lamp. The most common bases are E27 (large socket) and E14 (small socket), but there are also GU10 and G9 for spotlights and pin bulbs. Therefore, always check which base your lamp uses before making your purchase.
- Colour temperature: Colour temperature is measured in Kelvin (K) and determines whether the light is warm or cool. For cosy living spaces such as the living room and bedroom, you can choose a warm colour temperature (2700-3000K), while cool colour temperatures (4000-6000K) are better for work areas such as the kitchen or office.
- Power and brightness: Brightness is measured in lumens, and it is important to choose an LED bulb that provides sufficient light for the purpose. Work areas require higher brightness (700-1000 lumens), while softer lighting of 300-500 lumens is often sufficient for cosy lighting in the living room. Fortunately, LED bulbs use far less energy, so you can achieve high brightness with low wattage.

New energy labelling
Energy labels are intended to provide consumers with information about the energy consumption of household products. A new energy labelling standard was introduced on 1 March 2021.
The website shows products with the new energy label. Products can still be delivered with the old energy label on the packaging until 1 March 2023. The product remains the same regardless of the energy label.
What the changes mean:
The previous scale from A+++ to A+ has been replaced with a scale from A to G. The new scale will enable consumers to distinguish more clearly between the energy classes and to compare products more easily.
Use the QR code on the packaging to learn more about the product’s specifications.

FAQ
What is an LED bulb?
An LED bulb is a type of light bulb that uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to produce light. LED bulbs are known for their energy efficiency, long life and ability to provide light without using much power compared to traditional bulbs.
What makes an LED bulb light up?
In an LED bulb, small semiconductors or light-emitting diodes emit light when an electric current passes through them. This process creates light by releasing energy in the form of photons – without generating much heat, as is the case with traditional bulbs.
How hot do LED bulbs get?
LED bulbs produce very little heat compared to incandescent bulbs. They only get slightly warm during use, as they convert most of the electrical energy into light rather than heat. This makes them safer and more energy efficient than traditional bulbs.
