What is an electric bike?

It is possible to cycle faster than that, but once the top speed is reached the motor cuts out, so then you have to rely on your own pedal power. You set how much power you want the motor to provide depending on whether you see the bike ride as a workout or if you want to ride a bike without having to make an effort.

A standard battery usually lasts 4-6 miles, but factors such as cold temperatures, the cyclist's weight, road surface and air pressure in the tyres affect how fast it discharges.
